Lizzie Lee Etheridge Carroll

Lizzie Lee Etheridge Carroll, 93, a beautiful, compassionate, loving lady, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Magnolia Gardens Senior Care in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.

She was born in Weldon, N.C. on September 27, 1924.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Henry Carroll.

She is survived by daughters, Judith Gardner of Raleigh, Honour (DeeDee) McKenzie and husband Paul, of Saint Petersburg, Florida, Marianne Elliott of Roanoke Rapids, Jamie Harper and husband Landon, of Raleigh and Sloan Tanner and husband John, of Raleigh. Lizzie leaves behind grandchildren, David and Sam Gardner, Colby Lyles, Lindsey Lyles Goble, and Caroline and Sarah Knox Harper, as well as, step granddaughter Alexandria Tanner. She also leaves behind her great grandson James Goble.  Lizzie is also survived by a brother Cecil Etheridge and his wife Beverly, of Roanoke Rapids and a sister Effie Pearson and her husband Franklin, also of Roanoke Rapids, as well as, many nieces and nephews who were near and dear to her heart.

A visitation at 3 pm with a funeral service at 4 pm, are scheduled for Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Askew Funeral & Cremation Service of Roanoke Rapids. Following the funeral service, she will be laid to rest in Weldon’s Cedarwood Cemetery next to her late husband. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory, to Weldon Baptist Church in Weldon, N.C. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Magnolia Gardens for the loving care Lizzie received from Diane, Ellen, Joyce and Evelyn.

Bessie Miles Moss, 64, of Gaston, NC, died, August 25, 2018, at her residence.

Mrs. Moss was born in Roanoke Rapids, NC, the daughter of the late Henry Thomas Miles and Bessie June Ellis Miles.

She was a former employee of West Fraser, Inc.  in Seaboard, NC.

She is survived by: her husband Billy Wayne Moss; two daughters, Stacy M. King and her husband, Lee, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Amy Moss of Gaston, NC; a son, Franklin Thomas Moss and his wife, Katrina, of Brevard, NC; three sisters, Sue Johnson and her husband, Andy, of Jackson, NC, Lucy Bowen and Becky Peede, both of Roanoke Rapids, NC; seven grandchildren and her dog, Sweet Pea.

The family will receive at Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service, 1015 West 5th Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC, Monday August 27, 2018, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service, Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.

Interment will follow in the Miles-Ellis Family Cemetery, in Northampton County, NC.

Eleanor Kay Padgett Jones, 71, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Vidant Medical Center.

Mrs. Jones was born March 27, 1947, in Wake County to the late Horace Padgett and Annie Sue Batchelor Padgett. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Rose Staton.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ben Jones; her children, John B. Jones, Jr. and his wife Kim of Grifton, NC, Susan Whitehurst and her husband Morgan of Bethel, NC and Justin B. Jones and his wife Tina of Washington; her brothers, Julian Padgett and his wife Mary-Ellen of Hobgood, Sonny Padgett and his wife Leona of Scotland Neck; her sisters, Gloria Perry of Roanoke Rapids, Iris Harrison and her husband Saunders of Newport, NC, and Sandra Parker and her husband Ronald of Farmville, NC; her grandchildren, Jacob Brian Jones and his wife Ragan, Jordan Gaston Jones, Evan White, Logan White and Mykala Jones; her great granddaughter, Paisley Rae Jones and her special companion Raisin.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck with Rev. Randy Martin officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 P.M. Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.

Ruth Crissman Harris, 97, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Magnolia Gardens Senior Care in Roanoke Rapids.

Ruth Harris

She was born May 1, 1921, in Tarboro.  

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Curtis and Delle Crissman and her husband of 59 years, Thomas G. Harris.

She is survived by her sons, Thomas G. Harris, Jr. (MaryBeth) of Lexington, GA ,and John “Scott” Harris (Betty) of Roanoke Rapids.  She is also survived by her daughters Criss Harris Blackstone of Washington, NC, and Caroline Harris Hackley (Phillip Harmon) of Waynesboro, VA.

Ruth (Nannie) also leaves behind her grandchildren Mary Caroline Harris, Thomas G. Harris III, Carl Blackstone (Mary Addison), Laura Blackstone, Scott Harris (Becky), John Harris (Michelle), and Benjamin Hackley.  She also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Mary Thomas, Frances, Margaret, and Kate Blackstone, and Cole and Brooke Harris.

Ruth graduated from Macon High School and went on to Meredith College where she received a B. A. in English in 1942.  

Ruth enjoyed lunch with “the girls” at Second Street Lunch, history, genealogy, and sharing stories about her grandchildren.  

Ruth loved to travel and enjoyed many trips around the world.  

Ruth volunteered and served on boards for many organizations in Roanoke Rapids and during her years in West Point, VA.  She served on the Library Board, was president of the United Methodist Women’s Group, served on the committee to rebuild First United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids, NC, following a fire, and many other organizations.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Magnolia Gardens for their love and care of Ruth over the years.

Graveside Services will be held Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Greenwood Cemetery in Macon, NC with Rev. Sue Owens officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Macon United Methodist Church, West Point United Methodist Church, or First United Methodist in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Herbert McKinley Moseley Jr.

Herbert McKinley Moseley Jr.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Herbert McKinley Moseley, Jr. of Triplet, Virginia, passed away on September 3, 2018 surrounded by his family.

Herbert, Jr. was born February 26, 1942 and lived his life with unparalleled strength, fortitude and spirit.

He was a charter member of the Triplet Volunteer Fire Department where he served terms as Vice President and President. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and served as a deacon at Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Gasburg, Virginia.

While he will be remembered for his passion for horseback riding and camping, he will be most fondly remembered for the love he wholeheartedly gave his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia; his children, Ann Moore (Tommy), Chris Moseley (Michelle) and Susan Wright (Daniel); his grandchildren, Blair, Katlyn, Garrett, Rebecca, Allison, Jordan, Caroline and Brooke; and his sisters, Lenora Brooks, Sara Irby and Helen Gale Irby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Fannie Moseley, Sr.; his grandchildren, William and Eliza Wright; his brother, Everige Moseley and his sister, Laura Ann Cannon.

The family will receive guests from 6:30-8:30pm Wednesday September 5, 2018 at Williams Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday September 6, 2018 at Pleasant Hill Christian Church. Interment will follow at the PHCC Old Cemetery.

Faye Passmore Bohanon

Faye Passmore Bohanon, 92, of Roanoke Rapids, died Monday, September 3, 2018 at Signature HealthCare.

Faye was born June 5, 1926 in Haywood County, NC, a daughter of Horace Greeley and Ora Mae Revis Passmore, who preceded her in death.

She was an independent, strong woman, raising three children after unexpectedly becoming widowed following the death of her husband James Bohanon in an automobile accident.  

Faye loved to travel, and spent several years in Colorado with her sister, and working with disabled adults all the while.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara B. Pittman; daughter-in-law, Joyce Bohannon; and six siblings.

Faye is survived by two sons, James "Jimmie" Bohannon and Douglas Bohanon, both of Roanoke Rapids; a sister, Elaine Turner (Robert) of Halifax; grandchildren, Tammy Clark (Bob), Sandy Dixon (Jeffrey), Michael Bohanon (Kim), Brian Bohanon (Robin), Carol Dee Bohanon; great-grandchildren, Ashley Bellamy, Ashlyn Bohanon, Seth Bohanon, Cameron Podruchny, Carson Bohanon; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 - 7 pm Thursday at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service.  

The funeral service for Mrs. Bohanon will be held at 1 pm Friday at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service, with interment following in Ebenezer United Methodist Church cemetery.  Pastor Randy Martin will preside.

Milton Johnson Martin

Milton Johnson Martin, 69, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.

Milton was born November 18, 1948 in Northampton county to the late Lonza Johnson Martin and Annie Marie Lacks Martin.

Milton was a member of Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved music and his band. Milton also loved his church and hearing the gospel.

He is survived by his wife Trudy Martin; his daughters, Sandy Wood and her husband Lonnie and Nicky LaRochelle and her husband Michael both of Roanoke Rapids; his son, Christopher Martin of Gillesville, GA; his step-children, Brenda Carmichael and her husband Brent, David Cabiness and his wife Lorie both of Halifax and Wayne Cabiness; his sister, Shirley Jones of Gasburg, VA; his grandchildren, Zachery Martin, Grady Martin, Lonnie Lee Wood, Matthew Wood and Audry LaRochelle; his great-grandson, Bryson Michael Hilter.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 10, 2018 in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Tony Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:30 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Robert John Agoglia

Robert John Agoglia, 86, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2018, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 11, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Rocco and Rose DelNegro Agoglia.

Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather.

He helped write the Bios for IBM PC AT. He retired from IBM after 25 years and returned to work for them as a contractor for another 10 years.

He was very compassionate to those in need.

Robert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Connie Agoglia; his children, Bob Agoglia Jr. and his wife Susan of Henrico, NC, Linda Ballas and her husband John of Long Island, NY, Chris Agoglia and his wife Alicia of Philadelphia, PA; his brother, Joseph Agoglia and his wife Patricia of Florida; his grandchildren, Heather, Greg, Jason, Michael, Timmy, Emily and Jacob; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 9, 2018 in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Wayne Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.

Mabel Dunston White

Mabel Dunston White, 91, of Roanoke Rapids, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, September 7, 2018, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

Mabel was born May 12, 1927, in Halifax County to the late George Washington Dunston and Susie Johnson Dunston. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd White; her son, Ronnie White and her grandson, Troy White.

She was a member of Harvest Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church for over forty-five years. She was strong in her faith, a very giving and loving person and always liked taking care of others.

Mabel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Kenny White and his wife Linda, Kathy Jones and her husband Nelson, Debbie Grissom and her husband David all of Roanoke Rapids and Joan Garvey and her husband Vic of Rocky Mount; her sisters, Helen Letchworth of Roanoke Rapids and Linda Ross of Rocky Mount; her grandchildren, Melonie Hammack, Angela White, Stephanie Green, Elizabeth Edwards, Artie Jones, Brandon Grissom, April Jones, Amy Grissom and Neal Grissom; her great-grandchildren, Allison and Cameron Green, Kenlee Hammack, Brianna and Anthony Jones, Spencer and Daniel Edwards, Bristol Grissom, Justin Ngo, Jessica Pearson, Zach Grissom and Bailey Grissom.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Harvest temple Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Norwood Starling officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 1;00 P.M. prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of her daughter, Debbie Grissom.

Clarence W. Bradford III (Brad) passed away on September 7, 2018.

He was born in Newport News, VA, July 8,1943, to the late Clarence Bradford Jr. and Lallie Bradford.  He was also preceded in death by his brother Michael Bradford.

Brad is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pauline, his son, Douglas of SC, Granddaughters, Koral and Marina of SC, his daughter, Cindy of Virginia niece, Amie of Maryland.

Funeral service is Wednesday, September 12, at 10 am Hockaday Funeral Chapel Roanoke Rapids followed by a graveside service at 2:00 pm at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, VA.  

Family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday from 7pm to 8:30 pm at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.

James L. 'Frog' Jones

James Lewis “Frog” Jones, 77, of Fire Tower Rd., Jackson, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, September 11, 2018.

Frog was born, August 29, 1941, son of the late James V. Jones and Nannie P. Jones.  

Frog graduated from Jackson High School, Class of 1959, and started working for Talon, Inc. in Woodland, NC.

He was drafted in the United States Army in 1964 and was discharged two years later.  He met Hazel in 1966 after being discharged from the Army.  They were married in 1967.  Frog went back to work for Talon after being discharged from the Army and worked there for over 20 years. After the closing of Talon, Frog went to work for the North Carolina Department of Corrections where he was a loyal employee for over 12 years. He then transferred over to the North Carolina Department of Transportation where he worked for over 8 years and later retired after giving the State of North Carolina over 20 years of service.  In addition to his parents, Frog was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Jones and brother, Raymond Jones. 

Surviving are his siblings, Betty Lonchar and husband, Charles; Vernon L. Jones and wife, Ellen; and David Jones and wife, Pat, all of Jackson, NC.  Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Michael Lonchar of Jackson, NC, Mark Lonchar of Holland, Michigan, Ginger Riley, Coy Bell, both of Hillsboro, NC, Jennifer West and Stephanie M. Jones, both of Jackson, NC.  

The family will receive friends at Askew Funeral Service- Jackson Chapel Wednesday, September 12, 2018, from 7- 8:30 pm. Rev. Billy Howell will conduct graveside services Thursday, September 13, 2018, in Jackson Cemetery at 11:00 am.

Carlton Ray 'Buck' Tripp Jr.

Carlton Ray “Buck” Tripp, Jr. 69, of Gaston died Tuesday September 11, 2018.

“Buck,” a native on Halifax County was the son of the late Carlton Ray Tripp, Sr. and Stella Ruby Ferguson Tripp. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Terry Ann Tripp and a brother, Joe Tripp.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Tripp, his daughter, Julie T. Stanley and her husband, Marvin Stanley, III of Greenville, NC; his three sons, Carlton Ray Tripp, III and his wife, Amy Carter Tripp of Roanoke Rapids, Alan Tripp of Roanoke Rapids and Benjamin Lee Tripp and his fiancée’ Jessica Beam of Roanoke Rapids; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Vandyke of Henrico and Pattie Mae Johnson of Roanoke Rapids.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Community home health and to Frank and Susan Evans of Gaston for all their help over the last several months.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday September 15, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Good Samaritan Baptist with Rev. Dennis W. Gregory, Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

Diane Griffin Powers, 69, of Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday September 12, 2018.

She was a native of Halifax County and was the daughter, of the late Robert and Mildred Louise Lassiter Griffin.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki P. Johnson and her husband, Sheldon of Roanoke Rapids; two granddaughters, Blair Johnson and her fiancé’ Chris Barus of Rocky Mount and Paige Johnson of Roanoke Rapids; three great grandchildren, Kaylin Humphries, Drake Johnson and Rylee Fleming; her nephew, Scott Griffin and his wife, Becky of Greenville and her great nephew, Kyle Griffin; Lifelong best friend, Phyllis Morgan of Roanoke Rapids.

Memorial Services will be held Sunday September 16, 2018 at 3 P.M. at Community Freewill Baptist Church in Weldon.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 P.M. at the Church.

Mildred F. Bradley

Mildred F. Bradley, 93, of Roanoke Rapids, went home to be 
with the Lord Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018.

Mildred was the daughter of M. L. and Lessie Floyd.

She was 
preceded in death by her parents, 13 siblings, a granddaughter, 
Patricia Moseley and her husband of 56 years, P.K. Bradley.

She is survived by one daughter: Emma Ruth Webb Moseley 
(Herman), 2 grandchildren: David F. Moseley (Terri), Lisa 
Moseley Strickland (Jimmy). 5 great-grandchildren: Scotty 
Strickland (Allyson), Katie Strickland Campbell (Clyde), Jade 
Daniels (Chelsea), Erin Moseley and Gavin Moseley. 4 great- 
great-grandchildren: Gage and Forrest Daniels, Carleigh and 
Carson Strickland. She leaves behind one sister: Alease Allen 
Pair and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

Mildred was a very unique lady. She loved her family and 
friends and never met a stranger. She spent most of her life in 
the Emporia area and was a long time member of Mt. Vernon 
Baptist Church.

She loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing her 
testimony with others. She was a beautician for many years 
running her own shop at home. She enjoyed tatting and found 
lots of joy giving away her handmade treasures.

Her services will be held at Wrenn, Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Larry Grizzard officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm until the service time. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.

Wilbert Voyd 'Sonny' Warren

Wilbert Voyd “Sonny” Warren, 87, died September 14, 2018 in his Roanoke Rapids home.

Born in Weldon on February 18, 1931, he was a son of Claude Voyd Warren and Pauline Cooper Warren.

He is survived by is wife of 70 years,  Lillian Marie Webb Warren , whom he married January 17, 1948.

Also  surviving are  Daughters, Cindy Warren Wilson of Weldon, NC and Sheila Warren Davis and husband Tim of Roanoke Rapids, NC, also a son Wilbert V. (Chip) Warren and wife Raye of Garysburg, NC.  Eight grandchildren; Nikki Johnson Hopkins (John), Chris Johnson (Kim), Michelle Wilson Parker (Jeff), John Wilson (Kelly), Josh Davis (Leighann), Stephanie Davis Smith (Brian), Jen Warren Ott (Timmy), Jessie Warren Langley (Alex), and fourteen great-grandchildren; his sister Doris Warren Lyles of Weldon, NC, his brother E. C. (Fats) Warren of Roanoke Rapids, NC, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mr. Warren was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Muriel (Tikki) Clinkenbeard, Betty Jean Landen’ a son-in-law Mike Wilson, and grandchildren Ann and Justin Davis.

Sonny was a long time employee (25 years) of Lindale Dairy/Pine State Creamery.  He also served as a Magistrate for Halifax County for a great number of years. Sonny was a Mason for a total of 34 years, a member of Roanoke Lodge #203, Weldon, NC then Royal White Hart Lodge #0002, Halifax, NC.  He was an avid golfer.

Mr. Warren was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Sonny and Marie enjoyed traveling for years with friends.  

He also enjoyed hosting his annual Pig Pickin’ at their home on Lake Gaston, a tradition that occurred for more than 20 years, with a highlight being his stew, made from a recipe handed down from his father, that he took pride in preparing.  

In later years, Sonny and Marie enjoyed spending winters at Paradise Park, an airstream park, in Florida.  They enjoyed golfing daily and social time spent with friends.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to caretakers Beverly Norman and Mabel Magee.

The celebration of Sonny’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, with Pastor Randy Martin presiding.  Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Crestview following the graveside rites.

Blanche Jones Spence, 91, died Monday, September 17, 2018.

A native of Warren County, she was the daughter of the late Emmett Jones and Lula Conner Jones.

Blanche was a Charter Member of Gaston Church of Christ, was devoted to her family, and enjoyed shopping, clothes, yard sales and her cat Shasha. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Spence Newton, brothers, Elmo and Tom Whitby, and a sister, Norine W. Ellis.

Mrs. Spence is survived by a son; Robert L. Spence Jr. and his wife Patsy, grandchildren; Robert L. Spence III and his wife Sanday, and Kelley Spence of Apex, Great Grandchildren; Ashley L., Robert L. IV (Robbie), and Benjamin Tyler Spence, son-in-law; William “Earl” Newton of Skippers, Va., her siblings; Janet Lofland of Richmond, William “Spurgeon” Whitby of Gaston, Mary Lee and Joe Killebrew of Smithfield, Helen W. Clary of Gasburg, Va., and Margie and Emory Whitby of Gasburg, Va.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Cedarwood Cemetery with Steve Merritt, Minister, officiating. The family will receive friends at Wrenn Clarke and Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service starting at 10:00 A.M.

Betty Jean Shurett Akers, 91, died Friday September 14, 2018 at Vidant Hospital in Greenville.

Betty was born October 2, 1926 in Rockford, Alabama.

She was the daughter of the late William and Docia Shurett.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Samuel Henry Akers, brothers Bill Shurett, H.E. Shurett, Tom Shurett, Bobby Shurett, sisters Henry Sue Rudd and Bennie Werner.

She was raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  

She was a proud graduate of the University of Alabama, completing her degree in Nutrition in 3 years. Roll Tide!

Betty was a faithful Christian, a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a cherished friend to many.

She was a long time member of First United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids.

Betty worked for many years as the Child Nutrition Director for the Roanoke Rapids and Weldon City Schools.

She was the go to person for many when it came to cooking. She could whip up a mean banana pudding and out of this world Thanksgiving dinners. She enjoyed many meals on Friday night and lunch at Second Street with the girls.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the angels at Brookdale in Greenville for their love and care for the past 2 years.

She is survived by her children Kenny Akers of Charlotte, Shurett Rawlings of Rocky Mount, Mary Pat Langford (Eugene) of Greenville. Betty leaves behind her grandchildren Ken Akers (Christine), Meredith Stokely (Trinity), Holley Akers (Jim), Adam Rawlings (Kerry), Patrick Rawlings and Scott Langford (Lisa). She also leaves behind great grandchildren Maggie Akers, Nathan Stokely and Seth Stokely.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 22 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist With the Rev. Joseph Casteel officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service in the chapel of the church.  

Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Katherine Taylor

Katherine Taylor, 84, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Magnolia Gardens in Warrenton.

Katherine was born February 12, 1934, in Halifax County to the late Gerald Taylor and Jennie Jarrell Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her cousins, Thomas Lee Wood and Sanford Wood.

She was a very devoted and loyal person. Katherine loved her family, cooking and gardening.

Katherine is survived by her children, Kathy T. Cullom and her husband Andy, Janice T. Hunt and her husband Gary both of Johnson City, TN, Barbara T. Harris and her husband Gary of Halifax and Luther Graham Taylor and his wife Sharon of Littleton; ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; Lifetime companion, Edward Lee “Grady” Peterson.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 24, 2018 at Good News Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy King and Rev. Barry Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at 616 Henry Street, Roanoke Rapids.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Magnolia Gardens in Warrenton.

Adele Taylor Fox

Adele Taylor Fox, 78, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018.

Adele was born November 26, 1939 in Halifax County to the late Joe Pender Taylor and Nancy Bass Taylor.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Bobby J. Fox; her brother, Joe Taylor; her sisters, Grace Crowder and Kathleen Gupton.

Adele was the owner and operator of Fox Mini Storage.

She was a great mom, grandma and great-grandma. She loved her pastors and their wives, Rudolph and Ruth Evans, Arnold Cooper and Bessie, Jeremy Kobernat and Joanna, Dan Bybee and Kelly and Nathan Johnson and Grace.

She was a charter member of Lakeview Park Baptist Church and a member of Victory Baptist Church.  

Adele loved singing in the choir and being at the church serving any way she could. She loved her church family dearly and always kept gum for the children at the church.

She only knew one speed and that was fast. Adele loved to shop and dress nice, kept a neat yard and a spotless home.

Adele loved going to Burger King and meeting her many friends there, many to which have gone on before her.

She especially loved her animals and there are too many to name. These past few years her little companions were Chloe and Casey.

Adele is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Fox Shotwell and her husband Lawrence; her son, William T. Fox and his wife Patricia; her grandson, Jason Shotwell and his wife Stephanie; her granddaughters, Lauren Shotwell Price and her husband Mason, Sydney Fox Edwards and her husband Jimmie and Amanda Whitby and her husband Travis; her great-granddaughters, Macie Taylor Price, Alyssa Keeter Shotwell,  and Mila Whitby; her great-grandson, Jaxon Whitby; her brother, Robert Taylor and his wife Dorothy Kay of New Braunfels, TX; her sister, Eileen Rowland of Roanoke Rapids; her sister-in-law, Linda S. Fox of Roanoke Rapids and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremy Kobernat officiating. Entombment will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:30 P.M. Friday, September 21, 2018 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at the home of her daughter.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Home Health and Hospice of Halifax for their care and attention.
