Jackson is survived by his parents, Dallas and Hayley Hollowell of Roanoke Rapids; his twin brother, Lucas Owen Hollowell; his maternal grandparents, Daryl and Jeanna Dunlow of Roanoke Rapids; his Paternal grandparents, Owen and Kim Hollowell of Roanoke Rapids; his maternal great-grandparents, Victor and Judy Martin of Roanoke Rapids; his maternal great-grandmother, Faye Dunlow of Roanoke Rapids; his paternal great-grandmother, Patsy Johnson of Roanoke Rapids; his Aunt, Morgan Dunlow (Alex Boyd) of Roanoke Rapids, his Aunt, Casey Hollowell of Roanoke Rapids; his uncle Chris Curley of Roanoke Rapids ;his cousin, Greyson Boyd of Roanoke Rapids.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in Cedarwood Cemetery with Rev. Norwood Starling officiating.

Adam Thomas Bradley, 27, of Raleigh, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Monday, June 11, 2018.

Adam was born May 5, 1991, in Nash County to Ricky Bradley and Cynthia Wilson Bradley.

He was preceded in death by his Maternal Grandmother, Janice Honea; his Paternal Grandparents, George and Ruth Bradley.

Adam is at peace at last.

He loved playing his guitar, was an avid fisherman and also loved playing tennis. Adam had a soft spot for dogs, especially Daisy, Annabelle and Murphy.

Adam is survived by his mother Cindy Bradley of Raleigh; his father and step-mother, Ricky and LaDorne Bradley of Halifax; his sisters, Christy Hudson and her husband Danny and Tonya Hasty and her husband Chuck both of Roanoke Rapids; his nieces and nephews, Amanda Phillips, Macie Hasty, Karson Hasty and Trey Hasty; his aunts and uncles, Dianne Clary and her husband Jeff of Emporia, VA, and Carol Holton of Chicago, IL; his step-grandfather, Donald Haskins of Halifax.

A celebration of Adam’s life will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Victory Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday, June 15, 2018, at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at his father’s home.

Richard Brooks McClellan, 78, died Monday June 11, 2018, at The University of Virginia Hospital.

McClellan

A native of Evanston, Illinois, Richard was the son of the late Irvin Richard McClellan and Helen Betty McEwen McClellan. He was also predeceased by a brother, Daniel McClellan.

Richard retired from the U.S. Navy as a Senior Chief Aviation Mechanic after 22 years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy McClellan; sons, Robert Scott McClellan of Henrico, and Brian R. McClellan of Virginia Beach; a daughter Ginny Gregoire and her husband Jeff of Virginia Beach; brother, Stephen McClellan of Carmel, California; sister Martha McClellan of Durango, Colorado; grandchildren, Mayson, Christia, and Brandon McClellan, Alexandra, Justin, and Nicholas Gregoire; one great grandchild, Charles.

A celebration of Richards life, with full Military Honors, will be held Saturday, July 21, 2018, at 1:00 P.M. at his home, 773 Woodcock Road, Henrico, NC.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Richard’s name to the Lymphoma Research Fund, Attention: Dr. Michael E. Williams, UVA Cancer Center, P.O. Box 800716, Charlottesville, VA  22908.

Warner Mason Clements Jr.

Warner Mason Clements, Jr. of Skippers VA passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018.

A native of Halifax County he was born to the late Warner Mason Clements, Sr. and Vivian Gertrude Claiborne Clements. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Stephanie Prince.

Mason was retired from Kapstone Paper with 38 years of service as a machinist and was a farmer and owned and operated Clements Welding Service. He was a charter member of Brink Hunting Club serving as President several times. He was also a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church.

He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and took great joy in their happiness, always giving freely of himself. He always worked fiercly, possessed a strong work ethic and took great pride in his work. Mason was a selfless, giving, generous and kind to all that knew him.

Mason is survived by his wife, Donna Dickens Clements of the home; his son, Chris and his wife, Melissa of Roanoke Rapids; his step-daughter, Chelsea Puhak of Raleigh, his step-son, Justin Leemhuis; his grandchildren, Cameron, Tyler and Madison Prince, Jarret Williamson, Colin Clements and step-grandchildren, Levi and Mia Puhak, Makenzie Leemhuis, Nicole Sasser and Davon Sutherland; his five sisters, Katie Fergason of Gaston, Frances Livesay and her husband, Wayne of Garysburg, NC, Alice Clary of Midlothian, VA, Marie Edwards and her husband, Wayne of Garysburg, Joyce Watson of Emporia, VA and his brother Wayne Clements and his wife, Rose of Emporia VA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at 2:30 P.M. in the Chapel of Askew Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Rick Ragan officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Hills Baptist Church Cemetery in Skippers, VA.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services 731 Roanoke Ave. Roanoke Rapids, NC and other times at Chris’s 116 Mina Street Roanoke Rapids, NC and 1818 Gaston Road, Skippers, VA.

Thomas Hoyt Branch Sr., died Saturday, June 16, 2018, at his residence with his family by his side.

He was 82.

A lifelong resident of Northampton County, he was born to the late Claude H. Branch and Annie Belle Wheeler Branch and was a retired farmer.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Peggy Jones Branch; sons, Thomas Hoyt Branch Jr. of the home and Michael Hoyt Branch of Gaston; daughters, Teresa Branch Clements of Pleasant Hill and Melissa Branch Rutherford of Louisburg, West Virginia; a brother, Steve Branch of Brink, Virginia; a sister, Claudette Branch Rook of Fremont, NC; grandchildren, Thomas H. Branch III, Tyler E. Branch, Taylor M. Branch, Luke Clements, Josh Clements, Ashli A. Branch, and Cody L. Rutherford; great grandchildren, Lillie Branch, Katie Branch, Logan Clements, Lyndon Clements, and Finlee Brown. Louise Elizabeth Moseley Floyd, 100, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018 at her home.

A native of Brunswick County, VA, Louise was born to the late Willie Moseley and Sophia Whitby Moseley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ned Floyd, her son, Wilbert “Pete” Floyd, her two grandsons, Kenneth Moseley and Rocky Floyd; her step-granddaughter, Janice Ansley; her great-grandson, Dustin Floyd; her sister, Sallie Wright and her brother, Renza Moseley.

Louise was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids.

Louise is survived by her two daughters, Doris Floyd Moseley of Norlina and Betty Floyd  Green of Harrison, AK; her son, Freddie Wayne Floyd and Kay Ross of Roanoke Rapids; her thirteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren and a very special person  Rudy Dickens of Roanoke Rapids.

The family would like to give a special thank you to her caregivers Katelin Thacker and Anissa Shotwell.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.

Frances Clements Allen, age 71, of Conway, NC, died Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at her residence.

She was born in Halifax County, daughter of the late Edward Wilson Clements and Margaret Gibson Clements.

Frances was a member of Conway Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, James D. Allen, of Conway; daughter, Kelly Allen Clark (C.J.), of Conway; son, James David Allen, Jr (Ginny), of Roanoke Rapids; two brothers, Edward W. Clements (Joyce), of Gaston, Daniel Todd Clements (Cindy), of Grimesland,NC; sister, Deborah Jones (Roy), of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, Alyssa Barnes, Camryn Barnes, Logan Barnes, Aaron Clark, Nathan Clark, Caitlin Allen, Maddox Ledgerwood, Maverick Allen.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, June 22, 2018, at Conway Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.

Marie Riggan Reaves Grant

Marie Riggan Reaves Grant, born December 20, 1924, passed peacefully from this world on Monday, June 18, 2018.

She and her late husband, Elmer Bruce Reaves, grew up in Roanoke Rapids.

They lived in Greensboro, NC, for many years and their farm is still there.

She was very involved in the Roanoke Rapids High School Class of 1942 reunions until just a few years ago.

She married Marshall Grant on September 20, 2003, and resided with him in Garysburg/Gaston, NC until her death.

They attended Lebanon United Methodist Church in Garysburg.

She is survived by her husband Marshall Grant, her sons, Elmer Bruce Reaves Jr. (Carol), Richard William Reaves (Sheila), step-daughter Sue Grant Allen (Rod), step-son David Grant (Carol), five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, June 22, 2018 at Lambeth Troxler Funeral Home, 300 W. Wendover Ave. in Greensboro.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at First Christian Church, Greensboro, with burial to follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.  

There will also be a memorial service at Lebanon United Methodist Church in Garysburg on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the 9:45 AM service.

As the quote says on her grave marker, “She was twice blest; she was happy and she knew it.”

Margaret Ramsay Long

Margaret Ramsay Long, 97, of Pleasant Hill, NC, died Saturday, June 23, 2018.

Margaret, a native of Northampton County, was the second oldest of five daughters to the late Herman Carlton and Nannie Jones Long.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Long, Sr., her son, William Herman Long, and her sisters, Mildred Jordan and Janie Jordan Worrell.

She was a life-long member of Concord United Methodist Church.

When growing up, Margaret was considered the tomboy of her siblings.  

A hard worker her entire life, Grandma Long loved planting and working in her flowers, and enjoyed sitting in her swing on her front porch.

Her family and friends considered her to be a great cook. Homemade cornbread, chicken pastry, potato salad and apple jacks were a few of her specialties.

Margaret is survived by her son, James Thomas Long, Jr., and his wife, Martha, of Roanoke Rapids, her three grandchildren, Renee L. Aman and her husband, Scott, of Roanoke Rapids, James Thomas “Tommy” Long, III and his fiancée, Lisa Cannon, of Pleasant Hill, and Margaret Joann “Ann” Languell and her husband, Chris, of Davidson; her great grandchildren, Courtney Aman Nicholson and her husband, Eric, Kelli Long, Emily Aman, Christopher Languell, Cole Languell, and Katie, Laura and Hannah Murray. She is also survived by her sisters, Nannie Long Jordan and Faye Long Pierce, both of Roanoke Rapids, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 11 am at Seaboard Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Pearce officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service at Concord Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Concord United Methodist Church at PO Box 71, Pleasant Hill, NC 27866.

Herman Ray Cox, 80, of Jackson, NC passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018.

He was born in Northampton County to the late Wesley Cox and Annie Mae Cox and was preceded in death by his brother, Louis Earl Cox.

Herman loved being a mechanic and working on his tractor. He was also known for being a master at repairing chainsaws.

Herman is survived by his daughter, Susan Greene and her husband, Charles of Roanoke Rapids; his Son, Lewis Cox and his wife Marie of Jackson; his four grandchildren, Lindsey Greene, Travis Greene, Colette Cox Davis and her husband, Daniel and Emily Cox; his three great-grandchildren, Jasmine Bowser and Adrienne Bowser, Justice Greene; his aunt, Margaret Conwell of Emporia, VA and his three cousins, Alan, David and Tony Conwell of Emporia, VA.

Graveside Services will be held to celebrate Herman’s life at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jim Cox officiating.

Grady Lee Neal Sr.

Mr. Grady Lee Neal, Sr., 82, of Roanoke Rapids died June 25, 2018 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Grady was born in Nash County on August 29, 1935.  

His parents were Ezzie Bacle and Sadie Rae Bryant Bacle.

An enterprising entrepreneur, he began his career at Harrison Joyner, and later was involved in real estate, restoring classic cars, motorcycles, picking junk yards and flea markets.  

He was retired from the City of Roanoke Rapids where he served as a driver/ \operator in the fire department for 15 years. He was a US Army veteran.

Grady was a member of Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include his wife,  Helen Sanders Neal; son, Grady Lee "Bear" Neal, Jr. of Green Bay, WI; daughters, Cindy N. White (Lawrence), Shaun Rightmyer (Doug), and Cricket Moseley (Joey), all of Roanoke Rapids; stepson, Tim Sanders of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, Samantha Leigh Meeks, Grady L. "Gray" Neal, III, Hayden Neal Rightmyer, Nathan Tobias Moseley, Addison Grace Rightmyer, Elijah James Moseley; two step-grandchildren, Lauren Sanders Welch, Matthew Cole Sanders; nephew, Rip Bryant; niece, Debbie Bryant Wheeler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William D. "Bill" Bryant, and his beloved dog, George.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 - 8 pm Wednesday at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service; and, at other times at the residence of Shaun and Doug Rightmyer.

The funeral service for Mr. Neal will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday at Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Pastor Tony Smith presiding.  

Interment will follow in Quankie Baptist Church Cemetery.

Kaye Robertson Parnell, 65, died Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Signature Health Care of Roanoke Rapids.

Kaye was a native of Halifax County and was the daughter of the late James McRae Robertson and Hazel Baird Robertson.

She retired from Halifax County Department of Social Services after many years of service.

Kaye is survived by her beloved daughter, Elizabeth Parnell Ward and her husband Steven; grandchildren, Molly Elizabeth Ward and Gavin McRae Ward; and her special canine friend Bella.

Graveside Services will be held Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at New Cedarwood Cemetery with Dr. Bane Angles officiating.

The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10:00 A.M. until time of the service at Wrenn Clarke and Hagan Funeral and Cremation service.

Linda Sawyer Moore

Linda Sawyer Moore, 62, joined her Heavenly Family on Tuesday, June 26, 2018.

She was surrounded by her earthly family.

She was born June 07, 1954, in Edgecombe County to the late John Ceaton Sawyer and Louise Mathis Sawyer.  

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 34 years, Roy Lee Moore.

She was employed with The City of Rocky Mount in the Cemetery Division for almost 36 years. Her job was a big part of her life and she handled each client and their families with respect and dignity.

She also took it a step further and thoroughly enjoyed linking families together through Genealogy.

She loved what she did and did not consider it a job, but a source of comfort when others were hurting.  

Linda also enjoyed Family vacations to Myrtle Beach and most recently the Mountains of NC. Wherever she went a good time was in the making.

She was the Beloved Mother of Roy Benjamin Moore and Linda Renee Moore; and Devoted Grandmother of Jacob Benjamin Moore and Makayla Renee Moore.

In addition she is survived by her sisters: Mary Sawyer Harrell (Butch), Shirley Sawyer Sutton (Jim), Jennifer Sawyer Holtzman (Claiborne) and Brother: John Michael Sawyer.

Visitation for Family and Friends will take place on Saturday, June 30, 2018, from 10:00 AM-11:15 AM at Living Fellowship Church, 1090 West Mount Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.  Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:30 AM being officiated by the Rev. Steve Edmondson.

Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials can be made to Living Faith Fellowship Benevolence Fund.

Preston Lee Forbes, 64, died Friday, June 29, 2018, at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC.

Preston was born in Moyock, NC, May 15, 1954, to the late Milton and Elsie Jenkins Forbes. He enjoyed the outdoors. He had pleasure in riding four-wheelers with his family and enjoyed fishing. He was a Mopar Muscle Car enthusiast. Preston dearly loved his family and was a loving husband, “Deddy”, and grandpa.

Surviving is his wife of 43 years, Glenda Long Forbes of the home; sons, Brian Lee Forbes and wife, Joanne, of Roanoke Rapids and Steven Lee Forbes and girlfriend, Danielle Silvestri, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Briann, Brooke, and Braxton Forbes; his sisters, Belinda Leonard and Deborah Hartley. The family would like to give a heartfelt “thank you” for all the love and support given by family and friends.  

The family will receive friends at Askew Funeral & Cremation Service of Roanoke Rapids Monday, July 2, 2018 from 7-8:30 pm. Rev. Jimmy King will conduct a Celebration of Preston's life at Good News Baptist Church Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at 1:00 pm with interment to follow in Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids.

Mr. Willard Ray Pittman, 78, of Littleton, died June 30, 2018, at his residence.

Born January 11, 1940, in Halifax County, he was the son of William Ray Pittman and Violet Sue Draper Pittman.  

His parents, and two brothers, Curtis and Monte, preceded him in death.

Willard was a skilled welder, a profession he enjoyed all his life.  He was a member of Iron Workers Local #30, then later joined the Boilermakers – Iron Ship Building, Local Lodge #45.  He loved his wife, children and grandchildren; enjoyed traveling and movies.

Willard loved and lived life to the fullest.

Survivors include his wife, Lydia Jenkins Pittman; daughter, Wanda Jones and husband Spencer of Morehead City; son, Jason Ray Pittman and wife Laine Moore Pittman of Roanoke Rapids; sister, Sandra Warren of Darlington; grandchildren, Brandy Davis and husband Marcus, Dustin Jones, Hunter Elizabeth Jones, Christian Pittman, Abbie Pittman, Jackson Sharpe and Lucas Sharpe; great-grandchildren, Hayley Shaw and Bryson Davis; and sisters-in-law, Eula Shearin, Daisy Newsom and Betsy Rains; nieces and nephews.

The service to celebrate Willard’s life will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 4, 2018 in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Minister Jeff Haislip presiding.

Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 10 – 10:45 am Wednesday, prior to the service.

Linwood Lee Ricks

Linwood Lee Ricks, 69, died Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC

Linwood was born, August 17, 1948, in Halifax County, NC, to the late Lewis C. and Lilian Bolton Ricks.  

He was a veteran having served his country with the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era and was a Navy Seal and was a Purple Heart recipient.

He eventually gained employment with the Weldon Police Department and later served as Chief of Police.  

He loved cooking, woodworking and especially loved to listen to “old school” Country and Rock n’ Roll music. He was a very talented man that could do anything, but above all, he was a wonderful Husband and provider to his loving wife.  

Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Priscilla Ricks of the home; sisters, Mary Snead and husband, FD, and Teresa Ricks both of Roanoke Rapids. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 7-9 pm at Askew Funeral & Cremation Service of Roanoke Rapids and all other times at the home, 114 Tom Willey St., Gaston, NC.  Dave Chapman, Minister will conduct funeral services Friday, July 6, 2018, in the chapel at Askew’s beginning at 2:00 pm. Entombment will take place immediately following the service at Crestview Cemetery.
